The Story of Jesus

Play Audio Track

"The Story of Jesus", a horn feature for brass band, was composed in September 2024. It features two familiar hymns. "I Love to Tell the Story", lyrics by Kate Hankey (verses, 1866) and William Fischer (refrain, 1869), and music by William Fischer, and the hymn "Tell Me the Story of Jesus", lyrics by Fanny Crosby (1880), music by John Sweney (1880).

This music is dedicated to the outstanding horn section at The Salvation Army Oakbrook Terrace corps band. My sister Pat is a long-time member of this section.

Lyrics:

I love to tell the story of unseen things above,
of Jesus and his glory, of Jesus and his love.
I love to tell the story because I know it's true;
it satisfies my longings as nothing else can do.

(refrain)
I love to tell the story; 'twill be my theme in glory
to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love.

Tell me the story of Jesus, write on my heart every word;
tell me the story most precious, sweetest that ever was heard.
Tell how the angels, in chorus, sang as they welcomed His birth,
"Glory to God in the highest! Peace and good tidings to earth."

(refrain)
Tell me the story of Jesus, write on my heart every word;
tell me the story most precious, sweetest that ever was heard.
